Supernatural’s Back in Time

by

Thursday’s ep of Supernatural was really good. OK, maybe I think that because it was heavily Dean-centric. I’m not even sure if Sam (Jared Padalecki) was in it at all, now that I come to think about it. And I do love me some Dean (Jensen Ackles). I don’t care what anyone says, Jensen Ackles is about the most perfect looking man around.

Dean was sent back in time to Lawrence, Kansas in the 70s by the Angel, Castiel (played by Misha Collins), to stop something, although he doesn’t tell Dean exactly what he is supposed to stop. Dean comes to find out that he is back in the 70’s to kill the yellow eyed demon who is there in that time. Also, Dean gets to meet his parents (a la Back to the Future) and finds out that his grandparents and mother were hunters.

He also finds out one more part of the puzzle, and that is why the yellow eyed demon came to their home when Sam was a baby and killed their mother. It turns out that what the demon was doing in Lawrence back then. He was there tricking people, giving them something they wanted now for a promise that they would give him something when he came back to see them in 10 years time. What he’s going to want then, is their babies. Well, he wants to be able to get to their babies, uninterrupted for a little while, so that he an inbue them with a gift, which is where Sam’s abilities came from.

All in all, it was a good ep. I’m still missing the music, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I thought Ackles was fantastic - there were so many wonderfully acted scenes, including the scene with Mary when she told him about what she wanted out of life and how she didn’t want her kids raised the way she was, was heartbreaking, and the scenes with Mitch P. were great.

Oh, right, I meant to mention that scene with Mary. Thanks for reminding me. That was so touching and when Dean was crying, when he was trying to tell Mary about staying safe 10 years in the future when the demon comes and kills her, that was just awful in a great way. I cried with him.

About Watching The CW

The CW was born in September 2006, and inherited a mixture of programming from its parents the WB and UPN. The CW has a diverse line up from Monday night comedy to Friday Night Smackdown. In between the laughs and the wrestling are alternate reality or fantasy based shows (Supernatural, Smallville), ones that are fit to bursting with bright young things (Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill) and don't forget all the wannabes trying to make it in reality programming (The Beauty & the Geek, America's Next Top Model, Pussy Cat Dolls). This blog will review, recap, share spoilers and other cool finds related to the CW's programming.
