Supernatural Samhain
OK, you know I love Supernatural , right? But Sam Hane. What in the Sam Hill is Sam Hane? The word is Samhain, but it’s pronounced Sah-ween or Sow-een or even Sah-veen, but not Sam Hane. Shouldn’t someone have done some research and learned that? And its a time of year, not a person.
*sigh* I just hate stuff like that. I love this show, but I hate silly mistakes. I know its their show and their world, so they can create their own mythology to go along with it, but why not just use something that already exists, the correct way, like say some actual evil demon from what ever mythology or religion they choose. And then learn to pronounce it properly. Its like an unnecessary thing that causes people, well people like me anyway, to get all unhappy.
Overall, though, the episode was good and creepy, which I like. I’m not a big fan of gore, though and while there wasn’t a lot, the razor blade thing really grossed me out. I think I may have been so upset by all the Samhain wrongness, though, that I totally missed any good lines. And there are always good lines in Supernatural.
I knew Sam was gonna need to use his mind mojo on the big bad, for sure, cause I didn’t think any silly little knife was gonna do the trick. I’m still not sure I understand why Dean is so against his using it, since it does help save people. I mean if you have special powers, you should be able to use them, right? I know I would use mine. I’m just saying.

like you said, it is their story. so they have prerogative. but since you have the right to complain too. you obviously are doing that. anyways, i believe though that they used the right spelling of the name there. ’samhain’.
anyways, the episode is awesome. all of supernatural’s episodes are awesome to a real fan. no matter how out there it may be. a real supporter may not agree in some level, yes, sure. but not outwardly say anything to hurt the show, Jensen, Jared, Kripke or the rest of the writers’ feelings cause they do bust their buns to give us these episodes 14 hours a day, 5 times a week, 9 months out of a year.
they deserve our support and the most we could do is not be badmouthing their efforts and stuff. instead we should be appreciating them for everything, don’t you think? JUST Saying.

Thanks for your comments, Barbara. You’re right, the show is awesome and I love it. It just that one of my pet peeves is when people get their facts wrong. My husband often tells me I’m the only one who ever notices stuff like that, but I can’t help myself. But Supernatural is a great show and I do appreciate all the hard work they do every week. I just wish they’d had a better fact checker on the ep, is all.
But you are right, its their show, so they can change the facts around to suit their story if they want. I still don’t have to like that they did it, though. But I love the show no matter what.
So, did anyone else find any great lines from the show that I missed last night?

Hey, love the show! Never miss it! But being a true fan doesn’t mean you let them get away with under researched tripe! This was a bush-league error which should have been caught by someone. It could even have been a dorky Dean mis-pronoumciation! That could have been funny! I want my favorite show to be as well researched as “Buffy” was.
Being a true fan means you want your players to do well, it doesn’t mean you ignore all their faults.IMO.

Hi Maureen! Thanks for your comments. I agree with you. This was really an error that could have been better researched.
Buffy is my all time fave show. I’m sure they probably made mistakes here and there, but nothing I remember that was quite this noticable.

Yeah I wasn’t too pleased with the use of Samhain in this episode either. And it wasn’t really the spelling that got me, it was the use of an actual pagan holiday, and the butchering of it into something evil. Pagans still have it rough sometimes, and that really didn’t help. I understand that they’re making up their own mythologies about things, but that wasn’t cool in my book. The Croatoan thing I understood, that doesn’t effect anyone. There was a tribe where people often used that as an alternate spelling for them, the Croatans, but it’s an alternate spelling, not the actual tribe. While I enjoyed the episode greatly, the use of Samhain as the name of a demon really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hi Chris, thanks for your comments. I think that doing things like this can not only offend people, but it can also make a show seem silly rather than serious. Not that Supernatural is Shakespeare or anything, but it doesn’t want to come across as goofy.
