Privileged Communication
I was going to try to do a recap of the premiere ep of Privileged. But I was busy, so I had to watch it while I was doing some other stuff. Since I was still playing catch up with all other other stuff I had recorded from last week - I still have shows to watch - I didn’t even get to watch it when it aired. In any case, it wasn’t that great.
I expected it to be kinda funny, but it was mostly just whiny. Or something. I don’t think I’m explaining this right. First of all, the premise has been done to death. Poor girl with out-of-control social consciousness, who thinks she’s the next great news reporter or journalist or something, loses job cause she’s an idiot (that’s just my take, of course) and gets job with rich family as tutor to spoiled teens. No one even seems to care that she has no degree in teaching or, quite possibly, no aptitude for it. Again, that’s just me.
So the kids are really bratty and their grandmother is too busy wrapped up in all her other stuff, and the only person who can see that the spoiled darlings need attention is, of course, her. Whatever her name is. Then there’s the standard storyline, where the kids try to take advantage of her, and when she tries to make them do what they should, the report her to the grandmother, who fires her. She stands up for herself and tells everyone what they should be doing and the grandmother realizes that she should stay. Throw in a little love triangle with the handsome, rich next door neighbor and her old best friend, plus some friction with her own family, who don’t know she’s back in town, and that’s it.
Less comedy, more drama. And the bottom line is, I didn’t really care about any of the characters.
Also, Tuesday night has so many good shows on that I, and probably others, will want to watch, I think Privileged is just not going to survive.
