NY Comic Con: Torchwood

One of the many bad pictures I took of Eve Myles and Euros Lyn at NY Comic Con.
I got lucky and asked a red-shirted employee if I could get in since I had a press pass and she pulled me out of the line and brought me into a door near the front of the room with lots of other press people. I was seated in the second row behind a short first row, so that the curtained area where Eve Myles and Euros Lyn were waiting before they went on stage was right in front of me. I kept catching glimpses of them as people went in and out getting ready for the panel. I was also sitting right near the press representatives from BBC America. The one camera guy was literally sitting on the floor in front of me. He seemed to have a great sense of humor, laughing right along with the crowd, not bored like some press people seem to be at events where they don’t have that much interest in the subject.
We were treated to a trailer of Torchwood Children of Earth. (We. We Are. We Are Coming.) Very cool. I saw the clip is available on the BBC America website. There is also a video of an interview with Eve and Euros afterwards, and although you can’t see me, I am literally on the other side of that curtain behind them.
Although they weren’t able to tell us exactly when Torchwood will air in the US, they did share some other insights into what’s coming. It sounds exciting. People wanted to know about the grieving process for the cast that’s lost and if they are missed in this series. Eve did discuss that it was hard at first to be shooting Torchwood without Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori, but that the series is very action packed and fast paced and that she, John and Gareth make a great team, with the character of Ianto being able to take on more of a role now.
When asked what was her favorite US scifi show, Eve answered with no hesitation, Buffy. That, of course, brought the subject around to James Marsters and whether we would see Captain John any time soon. Although he is not in this series, Eve and Euros did think he would back in the future, if it was at all possible. Eve went on to say that James is a real professional and that he gives everything in his performance.
Eve was asked about practical jokes on the set, and she giggled a bit, saying that there was a lot of that. She also added, “John farts a lot.” When everyone laughed, she said, “Well, he does.” Eve also said it was wonderful for her as a performer to be able to speak in her own Welsh accent, not something that happens too often. Finally, someone asked about Gwen and Ianto getting together, since Gwen and Jack have kissed, as have Jack and Ianto. She said she was open to anything.
