It’s Gospel Music Time on 90210
I knew it!! Well, I didn’t know that Dixon could sing, but I knew some other stuff. And it’s not like he was an amazing vocalist or whatever, I mean, he’s no Pavarotti (or what ever the gospel music equivalent of a Pavarotti is - Andre Crouch? Kirk Franklin?), but he can carry a tune and he has a pleasant enough voice.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. This week on 90210, those crazy kids are all back and up to their old tricks.
Adrianna asks Kelly to ask Brenda to come with her (Adrianna) to her rehab group meeting, as a person who was instrumental in helping her get clean. At first Kelly is hesitant to talk to Brenda and when she finally does, Brenda doesn’t seem too receptive. What we know and Kelly doesn’t is that Brenda just got some bad news from her doctor. We don’t know what it is, but we know Brenda is upset.
Brenda does show up, though, and Adrianna is very pleased to have her there. Then Adrianna finds out that Hank - someone we’ve never heard of before, as far as I recall - a former rehab buddy she has been trying to contact, has fallen off the wagon when he learns that he is HIV positive. Adrianna is now worried, since she slept with him a couple of times while in rehab. Kelly and Brenda take her to a clinic to be tested. Luckily, her HIV test is negative. But her joy is short-lived, when the doctor tells her she is pregnant. Its at this point that Brenda abruptly leaves, with Adrianna crying on Kelly’s shoulder. When Kelly tracks Brenda down later to see why she acted so badly, Brenda tells Kelly that she can’t get pregnant and she was feeling jealous of Adrianna. Brenda then tells Kelly she wants to adopt. (Hmmm, do I smell a plot line, with Brenda adopting Adrianna’s baby?)
Meanwhile, Dixon has been sharing music with that cute little cheerleader, the one who made Silver so mad last ep. (Don’t ask me her name.) Then she asks him to come to her house for a barbeque/gospel music fest her dad is throwing and he accepts. The bad part is, Dixon lies to Silver about where he is going cause he knows she hates the cheerleader. The party is filled with celebrities and lots of black people, something Dixon hasn’t seen in LA before. But when he thinks the cheerleader is coming on to him, he tells her he already has a girlfriend. She says, “I do, too” much to Dixon’s surprise, and points out one of the cute little gospel singers on the stage. (Really? Really??) But all’s well that ends well, cause as soon as Dixon realizes that she is just trying to expose him to some black culture, he calls Silver, tells her the truth and invites her to the party, where he introduces her to Denzel. That’s also where Dixon gets to sing, when the cheerleader’s dad invites up on the stage with the gospel group as backup, to sing Amazing Grace. He wasn’t bad.
Through most of the episode, Naomi has been trying to get Annie jealous over her relationship with Sean. Naomi and Sean have been doing all sorts of stuff together and she has pictures. After seeing one picture, with Sean holding Naomi, Annie starts to get worried that maybe everything isn’t what it seems. Especially after she overhears Sean telling someone on the phone that he will get them the money he owes. Annie tells Harry, and they have a little family conference, where Sean finally tells them that his adopted dad was a gambler and owed $200,000 before he committed suicide and left Sean holding the bag. (Well, Sean actually said that his dad thought the insurance would cover everything, but he didn’t realize that the insurance wouldn’t pay for a suicide).
Harry and Debbie get together with Susan to discuss how to raise the money. Harry wants to take out another mortgage on their as yet unsold Kansas house, or take a loan against their 401k, or even borrow the money out of Annie and Dixon’s college funds. Susan admits that she has more money and that she will see what she can do. Annie at first tries to take her doubts to Dixon, but he shuts her down, since he was having problems with Sean originally and that upset Harry. Then she goes to Debbie, who agrees with her. They confront Harry and ask him to have Sean take a paternity test before giving him the money. This all happens, right as Sean shows up at the house, all beat up, saying the men he owed the money to had found him, but that he would be gone in the morning.
Harry does ask Sean to take the test, and Sean agrees. But then Sean shows up in Annie’s room, standing right behind her as she was hanging clothes in her closet. He tells her about the paternity test and says something about people who get things handed to them. Then he smiles in a really creepy way and says good night. The next day, he’s gone. (I knew it. I knew he was up to no good. But something tells me we may not have seen the last of him.)
Susan and Naomi come to discuss it with Harry and family, and Susan, at first, refuses to believe it. Then Harry tells her he went to see the PI and their office was emptied out. Apparently, they were both in on the scam together. The adults leave the room, leaving Annie and Naomi alone together. Annie tries to make an overture of friendship to Naomi, but Naomi is very angry with her, telling Annie that she has ruined her family since the days she arrived in LA. Annie says that they should be glad they found out about it before Sean was able to scam them all out of a lot of money. Then Naomi tells her that Sean came to their house the night before and her mother gave him the money. That she had to call her soon-to-be-ex-husband and make some concessions in the divorce to get it. Naomi tells Annie that it’s all her fault.
In the final scene, Annie apologizes to Harry for causing all this upset and hurt, but Harry tells her he should have trusted her more.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not sure that the best music is on the part of the actors.
The show has featured my favorite band, THE TING TINGS, three times already this season [the album is on ITunes at http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=280390219&id=280390218&s=143441 & all of the featured artists on the show are worth taking a second listen.
