Hulu Awards: Best Dramatic Movie
Next up in the Hulu Awards, we have the award for Best Dramatic Movie. One of the great things about this category, to me anyway, is that I’ve actually seen most of the movies and I have an opinion about them. Even the ones I hadn’t seen, I’d at least heard about and that made it much easier to vote for the ones I liked best and thought should be final nominees for the Best Dramatic Movie. Some of these categories have been really difficult just because they were so unfamiliar.
So, the final nominees for Best Dramatic Movie are: The Karate Kid, Lost in Translation, Of Mice and Men, Sense and Sensibility and Sleepless in Seattle.
The only thing that makes this decision hard is that there is more than one movie that I think is worthy of the title and I can only vote for one at this stage. The Karate Kid, Of Mice and Men and Sleepless in Seattle are, in my opinion, classics. They are the movies that everyone has seen and will mostly likely see again. More than once. So I felt that the best pic should be chosen from those three. That’s not to say that I have anything against Lost in Translation or Sense and Sensibility. I just think that they are the newest of the movies, 2003 and 1995, respectively, compared with the others, and somehow I view both as “niche” movies. I just feel like they will mostly appeal to a specific crowd and may not have the more universal appeal of the others.
In the end, I chose Sleepless in Seattle, which may be a bit against my earlier argument, since it was the next newest (1993) and not everyone likes romantic comedies. But when I stopped to think about it, I knew that if I was gonna sit and watch one of those right now, that would be the one.
Well, here’s the poll:
