Confusing Smallville
This week’s ep of Smallville was a little different for me. Maybe for them, too. Actually, it was just confusing, I guess.
It revolved around Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley), who had been poisoned while at some party, along with his date, who’s name I can’t remember. But she dies anyway and no one seems to care overly much, so it hardly matters. Oliver manages to tell Clark and Chloe, before he succumbs to the poison’s effects too much, that he only has 12 hours to live.
Then the ep goes back and forth between the present and a time in the past when Oliver was stranded on a deserted island and had been poisoned, presumably with the same poison as now. In the present, he is dying and they can’t get the antidote. On the island, he is being nursed by a young woman who, along with a friend, has been taken captive by men who also have captured Oliver. It turns out she is none other than Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman), Clark’s new boss and the person who has just taken over running LuthorCorp.
Meanwhile, Tess has sent Lois Lane to get the story of Oliver, who they are saying left the party in a drunken stupor.
In the very final moments, Clark manages to come up with the antidote and heals Oliver, who tells him that Tess will be next. Clark, of course, rushes off and saves Tess without her seeing him. Oliver doesn’t explain how he knows about Tess, and later when Clark questions him, he says they are both captains of industry. Clark appears to buy it, but for a guy who’s supposed to be a budding reporter, that shows a real lack of instincts.
There was a lot more going on, like more with Chloe and Davis, and stuff with Lois and Oliver, and Oliver and Tess, but honestly all the going back and forth wasn’t clear to begin with so I kinda tuned it all out.
