Chloe Sullivan and Jimmy Olsen

by Staff Writer

When I heard that there was going to be a new main character on Smallville, I was really excited to hear that it would be Jimmy Olsen, the infamous photographer from the Superman Chronicles. When the episode aired, and as time went on, I was even more excited to discover that Jimmy Olsen would be Chloe’s love interest. Three of my favorite lines from Jimmy would have to be - “Hey C.K. Wow, they grow ‘em big in Smallville.” , “I get it. He doesn’t like me. I’m your boyfriend, we’re involved and he’s all jealous.” (which is followed by Chloe’s line, “Clark and I are just friends. Trust me, that anchor is tied firmly at bay. And as for not liking you, that’s impossible Jimmy, because you make me so happy.”) and “Come on, C.K. I’m your bro, not your foe.” The actor (who starred in X-men 3 and who’s twin, played a meteor freak in an earlier season) just truly captures the essence of Jimmy Olsen, and it makes the show all the more worth while. Also, even though I’d never realized it, Chloe never really had a boyfriend. There had been the various meteor freak that she’s fallen for and Clark which was a very short thing, and they’re better as friends anyways. Lex is really the one who points that fact out to us, even though it was harshly said, it was true. The relationship that has been established between Jimmy and Chloe is very different from anything that has been explored on the show. It is a very sweet, caring relationship filled with unconditional love, on both sides. It is a relationship which I believe will affect the show in a much better way, giving Chloe a boyfriend at long last, and it creates and interesting dynamic between Jimmy and Clark. As we all know, Clark has very few people in his life who he still cares about. Lana (who he can no longer talk to), his mom (who is very busy with her job as senate most of the time) and Chloe. Chloe is one of the only people who has been consistent within his life, and even though she will most likely stay that way, Jimmy does create an interesting situation. Plus, we all know that the real reason that Clark acts the way he does around Jimmy is that he doesn’t want him to find out his secret, because as a photographer he is supposed to document everything that he sees. Finally, we can definitely see how greatly Jimmy Olsen’s presence has affected the show so far. I believe that bringing in new characters from the comics, movies and cartoons such as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, is really slowly transitioning Clark Kent to Superman.

About Watching The CW

The CW was born in September 2006, and inherited a mixture of programming from its parents the WB and UPN. The CW has a diverse line up from Monday night comedy to Friday Night Smackdown. In between the laughs and the wrestling are alternate reality or fantasy based shows (Supernatural, Smallville), ones that are fit to bursting with bright young things (Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill) and don't forget all the wannabes trying to make it in reality programming (The Beauty & the Geek, America's Next Top Model, Pussy Cat Dolls). This blog will review, recap, share spoilers and other cool finds related to the CW's programming.
