Accidental Love on 90210

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

silverIt was good to have 90210 back last night. I missed it when there was a repeat last week. Especially since we left Ethan in a car accident. I was starting to think they were going to let him be hurt or dead or something. I even worried for a minute.

Anyway, this week on 90210, we find out that Ethan is fine, but the girl who’s car he hit, Rhonda (Rhonda, really?) had a collapsed lung and needed some sort of surgery. He feels really bad and overcompensates by visiting her daily and blowing off play practice. He actually feels even worse when he realizes that Rhonda goes to West Beverly High with him and he never even noticed her. They are even in a class together. But don’t be too hard on Ethan, cause it turns out little Rhonda is helping herself, as she is basically pretending to be worse off than she really is to keep Ethan feeling bad and paying attention to her.

Meanwhile, Adrianna gets up the nerve (more…)

Timeless True Beauty

Friday, January 30th, 2009

cjThis week on True Beauty, they show them what they will look like as they get older. None of them are happy with their looks as oldsters. Then they are told they will be partnered with a senior citizen for a photo shoot they will create as an ad for timeless beauty. Whatever that means.

They each pick their senior (one of them is a woman who is 101) and they get dressed and made up for their shoot. They are graded on how they treat their senior. Some of them don’t even offer their chairs. Also, in how they get along with their senior. Mostly they do OK, but Billy practically ignores his guy and is more worried about how he looks.

Then they take a look at the pictures. Well, first, they have a contest where they mimic each other with the winner being the only one who gets to look at the pictures. It turns out to be Joel who tells them how they did. CJ flips out when he finds out what picture the photographer chose of him and his senior. He then says if he is in the bottom two again, he’s leaving and he won’t be back.

Then we see all the photos. Laura and Ray look good. Billy’s looks too perfect, like its staged. Julia’s is also great. Joel’s is really good but he should have shown his eyes more. Chelsea looks beautiful but she has no connection with her partner. CJ’s pic is nice, but he doesn’t seem to have any chemistry with his senior. CJ then complains about the picture that the photographer chose. The winner is Joel. The bottom two are CJ and Billy. (OK, I admit, I was a little unhappy about that.)

Their last challenge before the elimination is whether or not they will help a little crying girl alone on the street outside of the Hall of Beauty. Billy goes first and he does stop to see if she is OK and finds her mom, and even introduces himself saying he wishes he had been able to do more. Although we don’t get to see it just then, CJ also helps the little girl.

Finally, at eliminations, the judges apparently feel that three times is one time too many, so CJ gets the boot.

One Less True Beauty

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Can I say that I’m already hating all these people? Oh, right, I’m talking about True Beauty. Why do I put myself through this then? Well, for one thing, people really seem to care about this type of reality TV.

So this week we start off with everyone happy that Chelsea is not coming back. But guess what? She’s back! First off, there’s a little squabble about a pair of jeans between Chelsea and Julia. I’m thinking these are really important jeans, fashion-wise, but since I know nothing about fashion and care even less, I’m not even gonna bother trying to find out.

Billy is vitamin store owner and he’s constantly pushing protein shakes. Now, I honestly like protein shakes, so I’d try one of his shakes anytime. (Get your mind out of the gutter!!)

Scarily, Monique has a wig she calls her alterego, and it has a name - Giselle. Really? Really??

The first challenge is for them to split into teams of three, take $100 between them and buy complete outfits they will show off at a Hollywood party. I still don’t know who all these people are yet, so I’ll do my best. The three teams are CJ, Ashley and Chelsea; Ray, Joel and Monique; Billy, Julia and Laura. CJ and team pretend to be from a charity and ask for donations, Ray’s team try to use their good looks to get stuff, and Billy’s team used honesty, explaining what they needed and giving the store owner all their contact info.

There is also a hired actor at a table set up and looking for charity donations. Will they give money to a charity when they have so little to spend? Well, everyone on Billy’s team did. Most of the others didn’t.

Afterwards, they were in a fashion show where the judges graded them on how they looked. Interestingly, Billy got the highest marks. I say that because he was the person who advocated honesty and he won. The bottom two, however, were both from the team that lied about charity. They were CJ and Ashley, which is fair, since, although Ashley helped Chelsea get her look together, Chelsea was against lying and did her best to get the other two in her team to stop.

When CJ and Chelsea go to the Hall of Beauty, they have one lasat challenge for them. A bike messenger takes a spill in front of them and they judges want to see who will help. CJ goes back and helps the messenger, but Ashley doesn’t. She basically stands there with the guy practically in her face and just ignores him.

And so Ashley’s portrait goes in the trash.

90210’s Having a Heatwave

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

This week on 90210, Annie tells Ethan she is ready. Well, first, some other things happen.

Tabitha is trying for a part in a miniseries and, even in the midst of a California heatwave, she keeps turning the heat up to protect her throat. She and Debbie are very unhappy with each other at this point. Harry is pretty much refusing to get into the middle of it. And that makes Debbie even more unhappy. To make matters even worse, Tabitha surprises Annie and Dixon with a car, but, much to their chagrin, Debbie refuses to let them keep it.

Dixon starts getting less and less happy with with Silver and how she makes fun of everything. Including when she mocks Ethan and Annie saying “I love you.” He gets advice from Navid that the reason she behaves that way is because she wants to be told the same thing. When Dixon finally tells Silver he loves her, on the beach during a party, she doesn’t react the way he expects. They fight and Silver walks off angry. When she tries to talk to Dixon later back at school he’s very cool towards her.

It’s Gospel Music Time on 90210

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I knew it!! Well, I didn’t know that Dixon could sing, but I knew some other stuff. And it’s not like he was an amazing vocalist or whatever, I mean, he’s no Pavarotti (or what ever the gospel music equivalent of a Pavarotti is - Andre Crouch? Kirk Franklin?), but he can carry a tune and he has a pleasant enough voice.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. This week on 90210, those crazy kids are all back and up to their old tricks.

Adrianna asks Kelly to ask Brenda to come with her (Adrianna) to her rehab group meeting, as a person who was instrumental in helping her get clean. At first Kelly is hesitant to talk to Brenda and when she finally does, Brenda doesn’t seem too receptive. What we know and Kelly doesn’t is that Brenda just got some bad news from her doctor. We don’t know what it is, but we know Brenda is upset.

Brenda does show up, though, and Adrianna is very pleased to have her there. Then Adrianna finds out that Hank - someone we’ve never heard of before, as far as I recall - a former rehab buddy she has been trying to contact, has fallen off the wagon when he learns that he is HIV positive. Adrianna is now worried, since she slept with him a couple of times while in rehab. Kelly and Brenda take her to a clinic to be tested. Luckily, her HIV test is negative. But her joy is short-lived, when the doctor tells her she is pregnant. Its at this point that Brenda abruptly leaves, with Adrianna crying on Kelly’s shoulder. When Kelly tracks Brenda down later to see why she acted so badly, Brenda tells Kelly that she can’t get pregnant and she was feeling jealous of Adrianna. Brenda then tells Kelly she wants to adopt. (Hmmm, do I smell a plot line, with Brenda adopting Adrianna’s baby?)

Stylista Season Finale

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

So this is the last week of Stylista and we are down to the final three contestants, DyShaun, Megan and Johanna. Personally, I don’t like any of them. I dislike Megan the most, though, so I hope she doesn’t win. Johanna is kinda whiny, so maybe I’d rather it wasn’t her either. DyShaun always wears those dumb hats. I guess I don’t want any one of them to win.

This week, the final three have to interview with Roberta “Robbie” Meyers, the Vice President/Editor-in-Chief of Elle Magazine. They all seem pretty nervous. DyShaun - sans hat - basically stumbles all over himself talking to Robbie, but seemed to pick it up a little and do better towards the end.

Johanna managed to keep it together OK, but it did seem like she babbled a little. It didn’t seem like she connected well with Robbie.

Megan, as usual, seems too sure of herself going into this interview. Confidence is OK, but sometimes, you can be too over the top when its not warranted. Also, she had no questions for Robbie, which is a huge interview no-no.

Stylista’s Top Four

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

This week on Stylista, the final four have to pick a replacement model to show off a particular dress. we mostly see Megan complaining about how Johanna doesn’t know what she is doing, since she is just too enthusiastic about everything, more like Megan at 15, and her model is too slim for the outline of the dress. In the end, however, Megan does prove right, when she wins the challenge.

They then get to create a new designer page after they meet some designers and choose which one they want to work with. It does have to be an up and comer, rather than someone who has been around for a while. Megan picks the teams as follows: Team 1 is Ashlie and DyShawn, and Team 2 is Johanna and Megan. She thinks Johanna is stronger in terms of writing. DyShawn was hurt, though, since he and Megan have always been friends.

At this point, I’m realizing that there is no one left that I like that much. Actually, I never liked anyone that much. But I guess if one of them has to win, I’d go with Ashlie or DyShawn. Megan is just annoying and Johanna tries too hard.

They find out a little twist to this challenge is that they have to then create their own runway show using the designers clothes. It seems like it was exciting and upsetting all at once.

Then it turns out that both teams picked the same designer, Jolibe. So now they had to present their arguments to see who the designer would choose. The designer choose Ashlie and DyShawn because they were more enthusiastic. Mostly cause the blase Megan made the pitch for the other team.

Then Johanna goes on to nearly insult the new designer, by talking about what she doesn’t like of his designs. Megan has to take her aside and explain that this show is about the designer’s vision, not hers. The DyShawn and Ashlie take most of the good shoes out of the closet and since it’s first come, first served, they now have to wait to see what they don’t use.

The makeup guy seemed to be mostly selling Max Factor makeup. Ashlie and DyShawn used some weird looking makeup designs, like thick eyebrows. Plus, they seemed pretty confused about where things were and what was happening.

Megan, however, really did seem to know what she was doing. She took charge and was able to get everyone on the same page and know what they were doing. All the others seemed a little too friendly and chatty with the models, who probably preferred specific direction.

I’m not sure I really get fashion, cause although some of the clothes looked pretty, not too many of then looked like anything anyone would actually wear. Anyone over a size 2, anyway.

So when they were putting their pages together, it seemed like Megan and Johanna were doing better, but Johanna is still pretty intense about it.

In to the panel, as for Team 1, the judges liked the makeup and the clothes, but didn’t care for how they laid out the page, since nothing popped, and also, there were typos. Once again, there are too many pics on the page. Didn’t Ashlie do that last week, too? For Team 2, the judges didn’t care as much for the clothes, but they seemed to liked the layout better, although then they said it was too safe. They also complained because there was no photo which was a close up of the print, since the whole point of their layout was his Egyptian print. Also, they didn’t like that in the one picture of the designer with the models, they models weren’t dressed in his designs. That did seem pretty stupid.

The winning team is Team 2, Megan and Johanna. Which means we are about to lose either Ashlie or DyShawn. Anne tells them that Ashlie has been very strong throughout the competition, but her editing skills are not good, even after the strong warning she was given last week, and DyShawn has a great eye for styling, but has no attention to detail.

In the end, Anne says that DyShawn has earned another week at Elle and that Ashlie is not the right fit.

Stylista, Five Becomes Four

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

This week on Stylista, they start out with Johanna saying that Kate should have gone home. She thought she would get rewarded for working well with Kate, a difficult person, instead, she was in the bottom two.

This week they have to set up a hotel room for super model, Maggie Rizer. They have a list to follow of all the things she requires and they have two hours and $300 to get it all done. Anne and Maggie then tour the rooms. Can I just say right now that I would not want to have to deal with this? They were very critical of every little thing. These people are just so haughty. Its like they expect people to bow down for them or something.

DyShaun won the challenge, but I didn’t think he would since he forgot the dog photo frames. I think the only reason Kate didn’t win was because she unwrapped al the food, as did all the other girls, making it easily accessible to the dogs (two lovely big Golden Retrievers).

Stylista Recap

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

This week on Stylista we are down to the final five. I can’t help but wish we were down to the final two. But I keep watching anyway.

This was a new episode, but it is basically a recap of everything that has happened up to this point. The most interesting part for me was seeing stuff that happened in the first episode, which I missed because it aired when I was without the CW on my TV. I learned that Kate basically turned against her team while in front of the panel and complained about how her team and the house was treating her. I guess I’m not surprised. This basically means that she has done that each and every week during the panel judging. My question is why don’t the judges see that and realize that she’s a trouble maker.

I mean, if I’m being honest, there’s probably not anyone left at this point who is actually a nice guy, but Kate is really the worst of the bunch. For one thing, she’s smug. I can’t stand that. It’s like she creates all this drama, and then sits back like it has nothing to do with her and she smiles while they rail at her. We did, however, get to see Kate do her impression of Anne and everyone was sitting around and laughing. With her, rather than at her. Plus, I noticed that Kate’s clothes are pretty inappropriate for the work place. It was mentioned quite a bit in the first episode, apparently, but only occasionally after that. I think she must have taken some of the criticism regarding her clothing to heart, because I haven’t seen her wear anything in the episodes I’ve seen that was as bad as some of the stuff they showed on this recap special, with it’s previously unaired material.

Another thing I notice was how Kate will refuse to work with others, but then when they have a problem with it, she turns it back on them somehow. Its kind of hard to explain what I mean, but watch for it next week and you’ll see what I mean.

Wow, this turned into a real rant about Kate, didn’t it? Well, maybe she’ll be eliminated next week and then I won’t have to worry about her anymore.

The Party’s Over

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

So on 90210 this week, the episode starts right where it left off last week, with Naomi and Annie fighting on the doorstep outside of Annie’s Sweet 16 party. Sean - the child of Harry and Tracy - shows up and introduces himself. It’s kinda awkward with them all sitting around talking to Sean, but it gets even worse when Tracy shows up and starts calling him “my son.” She and Naomi are so irritatingly annoying this ep.

Dixon is getting more and more upset about Sean being there, because he feels like Harry is connecting with his “real” son. It comes to a head at a regional soccer match, when Dixon is playing really badly and Harry pulls him out of the game. Dixon tells him off, and then heads to the locker room to cool down. Harry follows him in there. (Which did seem a little strange, I mean, can the coach just leave in the middle of the championship game and go hang out in the locker room?) But anyway, Dixon tells him how he feels, Harry apologizes and everyone is happy. There is also some discussion about Dixon finding his roots. Oh, and there is a cute little cheerleader who’s trying to flirt with Dixon. It’s very discreet, but I sense trouble to come.

Fitting into Stylista

Friday, November 21st, 2008

This week on Stylista, we start out with the contestants chatting about Kate, once again. Danielle is telling her mother that she is shocked to still be in the running and has made the Top 6.

They separate into teams of two: Ashlie and Danielle, Kate and Dyshaun, Johanna and Megan. They have to purchase a $250 thank you gift for Anne to give to Amy Sacco, “a member of New York royalty.” Whatever that means. Ashlie and Danielle put together a travel kit, Kate and Dyshaun choose a vintage Chanel pin, and Johanna and Megan, a cashmere throw. Anne says that the travel bag was a little too low end, the cashmere throw wasn’t the best weight of cashmere, and the pin was beautiful, but too personal, although she likes that they took the risk. In any case, she picks the cashmere throw to give to Amy.

Next they are all going to a party and then putting together a party page for the magazine. They will have to study dossiers on each party guest and remember everything. They are working in two teams of three and Johanna and Megan are now the rival team captains. The teams are Team 1: Johanna, Kate and Danielle; Team 2: Megan, Dyshaun and Ashlie.

They get to choose (more…)

And America’s Next Top Model is . . .

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

So we’re finally up to the last week and get to find out who is the new America’s Next Top Model. It will be either McKey, Analeigh or Samantha. Personally, I like Analeigh best.

I wonder, when these girls watch the show afterwards if they are completely embarrassed by how they behaved? Just thinking.

They start out this week shooting a commercial and a print ad for CoverGirl and some of the lines are Dutch! Also, they have to kiss a guy. The prize is amazing, though, their picture in Times Square and in every Walmart across the country. Sam and McKey both seem to have done just OK in the commercial, but not spectacular from what we see. Analeigh forgets her lines immediately. And we never see her get too much better. As for the photo shoot, they don’t get to have Jay there helping them to pose.

Analeigh and Samantha seem to be worrying more than McKey, but maybe that’s just all they are showing us. Or maybe it means something. Maybe McKey’s being more calm means she has this in the bag.

Wishing You Were Supernatural

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Last week’s episode of Supernatural, “Wishful Thinking” was just OK for me. Not enough Dean, for one thing. When I first saw the trailers, I thought it was gonna be like Pleasantville or something like that anyway. But it wasn’t. Once again, for some reason, I missed out on any good Dean lines. I usually either write them down when he says something awesome, or I just remember them. But not this time. Which is sad, cause I’m sure he said some things worth remembering.

In any case, the story of the ep was that wishes were coming true in this small town. It sounds great, but it’s not, since people can wish for lots of things that might not be good for the general public. Like, there’s the kid who wants to be invisible so he can hang around in the ladies locker room. One woman thinks he’s a ghost. There’s a little boy who is always picked on by bullies who wishes to be very strong. He now has the bullies on the run. There’s the little girl who wants her teddy bear to be alive, but it turns into a huge depressive alcoholic monster.

The teddy bear was kinda fun:

The wish that has started all of this, however, was a lonely, geeky guy who falls in love with a beautiful woman who doesn’t even know who he is. He wants her to love him, and she does. But he finds out that its not all it should be, since she does nothing else but be in love with him. She doesn’t seem to care about anything else.

Well, the boys have to track down the first wish, which they do, because only the first wisher can undo the spell that has been laid on the wishing well with the ancient coin he used to make his wish. At first, he doesn’t want to change it, because he does want her to love him, but then when he sees how destructive her obsessive love is, he changes his mind. It was kinda sad to see her not even know who he was after the wishes were undone, though.

Anyway, I’ll try to keep better track of Dean during tonight’s ep.

Retro’s Back on Stylista

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

This week on Stylista (yes, I’m still watching, against my better judgment and good taste) it starts out with Ashlie telling off Kate because Cologne went home. Ashlie was crying, sobbing actually, about how unfair ir was that Kate was still there. Then William is trying to tell everyone that he is the only one with actual experience, but as it turns out, both DyShaun and Devin have at least as much or more. Well, they think so, anyway.

The gang starts out at Bendel’s. They have to pick out one travel outfit for Anne, which will transition from day to night. They have both limited time and money and they all seemed to be struggling with it. Except maybe Danielle. Devin spent about three times as much money as she had to spend and had to put lots of stuff back. Anne didn’t seem to like most of them for one reason or another, although she didn’t actually hate any of them from what I could tell. As it turned out, Devin won, maybe because she ended up with just simple core pieces and good colors.

Anne then tells them that this week two people are being eliminated. Personally, I’m all for it. I wouldn’t mind if they eliminated five people.

For the challenge, they need to design a photo shoot for a two page spread of Tory Burch fashion designs. They work in two teams of four and Devin chooses the teams like this: Team 1 is Ashley, Kate, Danielle and Megan; Team 2 is Devin, William, DyShaun and Johanna. Clearly, all the drama people (aside from poor Danielle) are on Team 1 and Team 2 are people who are serious.

As could be expected, Team 1 can’t work together. Kate is really an instigator and no one likes her. I think part of the problem is she never just agrees with what anyone else wants and then when they call her on it, she’s almost proud of the fact that she’s so difficult to work with. She does break down on the phone with her mom, who tells her to just give up and come home. Um, really? Is that the advice you want to give your daughter, when things get tough just quit? Is that why Kate is a “former” law student? Did she just give up at that, too?

Team 1’s spread is more retro, with an 60’s orange couch and cool looking TV, with the model as a bored housewife. Megan hated the whole thing, but I think the idea had potential. The bottom line is that this team disagrees with each other about almost everything. Megan just walked off in the middle of the shoot cause she couldn’t take Kate anymore.

Team 2 goes with a minimalistic theme, with lots of faceless, naked mannequins, to say that the model is someone who wants to disassociate herself from society. For whatever reason. Devin seems to agree with whatever anyone says, but she didn’t come up with any ideas at all. They definitely did get along better than the other team, though.

The spreads come out OK. Kate basically tells them that Megan walked off the shoot. The judges don’t seem to hate either spread, but they did think Team 1’s spread may have been a bit literal, and Team 2’s spread was a little lazy.

Anne declares Team 1 the winner and says they are all safe. Team 2 is told that their concept was good, but that it wasn’t executed well. Johanna is told that the mannequins are a good idea, even if not used well. But she is safe. For the other three, she tells them: William, you started strong, but you are nowhere to be seen in this layout; Dyshaun, you took the lead and the concept was clever but weren’t really able to execute the vision well; Devin, you have cleverly surrounded yourself with strong team mates, but they overshadowed her. Dyshaun is safe. William and Devin will be going home.

Selling Top Model Beauty

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

America’s Next Top Model starts out this week with the top four contestants chatting about what’s past and what they need to do going forward. Marjorie is still all worried and conflicted, Samantha seems very confident.

Paulina teaches them tricks to sell things without speaking, since this is something models have to do all the time. They have to model herring, toilet paper, cell phones and some other stuff. To me it seemed like Analeigh was the best, but Paulina thought she didn’t pay close enough attention to where the camera was. Although, Paulina did have pretty good things to say about all of them.
