America's Next Top ModelSorry about the lateness of this recap post for the finale of America’s Next Top Model. My laptop is refusing to turn on and is therefore being repaired. In the meantime, my computer access is somewhat limited.

So instead of my usual play-by-play recap, I’m just going to (more…)

Birds of the Jungle on ANTM

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

America's Next Top ModelThis week on America’s Next Top Model the girls start out at a dance hall to learn the samba. I wanted to get up and dance right along with them. The samba looks like fun. The only one of the girls that really seemed to have any natural rhythym was Aminat. Also, Paulina Porizkova told Celia that she was old and that desperation wasn’t sexy. I find it humorous that someone is considered old at 25. In my book, girls at that age have barely finished cooking.

The challenge is (more…)

Go-See ANTM at the Beach

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

It’s go-see day on America’s Next Top Model .America's Next Top Model This is always fun. I do wonder how they can get to five places, with the travel, and trying on clothes and all that, in only four hours.

I have to say one of the things that makes me crazy is how the designers want these girls to all be so excessively tall and thin. I mean, I get it, that’s modeling, but in this day and age, shouldn’t we be past a lot of these silly stereotypes. I just get aggravated that designs don’t make clothes for normal people. Apparently, sales aren’t the issue here, because it seems to me that if you want to sell stuff, you should make it for the vast majority of people.

The girls seemed to make a lot of mistakes. (more…)

Models Go Brazilian

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

london-container_034122-452c2c-500x666This week on America’s Next Top Model the girls start out with the challenge to be a creative director of a photo shoot. They will be judged by Jay Manuel and Anne Shoket of Seventeen Magazine. They have to direct the hair style, make up and shoot, then they have to edit the film and pick the shot they want.

The winner was Teyona, who will be in Seventeen Magazine’s June issue and gets to pick two friends. She chooses Celia and Aminat.

The girls then get set up for a photo shoot and are joined by Ciara, who apparently (more…)

Acting Like A Model

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

America's Next Top ModelThis week on America’s Next Top Model they start out with another one of those random chick battles that somehow always seem to spring up when you leave a bunch of little girls alone together. Who even knows why these things happen?

Their first lesson is with Paulina Porizkova who has them say a line in a certain way, pitifully, threateningly, arrogantly, etc. They pretty much all (more…)

Top Models Show Their True Colors

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

sandraThis week on America’s Next Top Model, things are all still in a tizzy over Celia’s throwing Tahlia under the bus last week. I hate it when people can’t just mind their own business and want to cause trouble for others. Celia says she doesn’t regret what she did, but I just don’t get how she doesn’t feel like an idiot. In any case, it starts up a whole thing in the house, with everyone in everyone else’s face. Another reason why I think these little girls should have a house mother.

The girls are then tutored by Beth Stern (wife of Howard Stern, who is (more…)

Old Fashioned Modeling

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

kortnieI’m feeling pretty sick today. The doc says I have pneumonia. So my traditional recap of America’s Next Top Model is going to be a little less, um, recappy.

The ep starts out with all the girls complaining about how Sandra’s pic was not the best. Then they are visited by Toccara from Cycle 3. I really liked her. Toccara brings them some clothes as presents and then they have a sleepover while she talks to the models about personality and confidence.

Then they meet with Benny Ninja who talks to the chicks about posing and confidence. Their challenge is then to have a pose off with a live audience. Celia was the winner and she really did look great.

Next they have a photo shoot (more…)

Models In Times Square

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

America's Next Top ModelThis week on America’s Next Top Model, we start out with a little bit of introspection from the girls, as they consider what they were told in panel.

First off, they meet up with Miss J., who has they change into matching outfits, cardigan sweaters and khaki colored capris, black patent pumps and short strands of pearls. It was like they tried to give Mrs. Cleaver a modern make over. Then they walk for him and he brings out two girls from Cycle 9, Bianca and Chantal, to show them how it’s done.

Next up is a Jill Stuart fashion show where they are walking the runway carrying full shopping bags. I was actually surprised that (more…)

ANTM Gets a Make Over

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

jessicaantmOn America’s Next Top Model this week, we have the make overs. It seems like this is early to me, but this ep is always fun. The girls are always really excited at the start and then there are tears and knashing of teeth. Sadly, there are no actual breakdowns during the make overs and they had to make a little tension by pretending they were going to cut one girl’s hair when they really weren’t going to. The only one still crying afterwards was Fo, and she didn’t need to at all, cause she looked so adorable and pixie-like with short dark hair.

Since there is no Walmart in New York City, they have set up a CoverGirl Wall. The girls are put into teams and need to go find someone on the street to go back with them and be a model. They then introduce their person to the different products on the wall. The winning team was Sandra, Aminat and Celia.

Now comes the photo shoot with Nigel Barker and the point is to make sure they find the light. The theme is rock and roll, all colorful and crazy with wild hair. They actually have to hold these light sticks that look liked curling irons or something. Maybe some of them did OK, but most of them looked a little confused or bored. Fo continued to whine about her hair.

ANTM Cycle 12 Is Here

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

isabella21Here we are already starting off a new cycle of America’s Next Top Model. I really do love this show.

At this point, I usually don’t try too hard to actually learn any of their names, since most of them will be gone within the next two hours. I did notice that there was one chick with a ‘tude named Angelea who was from Buffalo, NY, which is my home, too. Somehow, I doubt she’ll do too well, cause ‘tudes usually don’t.

The girls, who range in age from 18 to 25, start out all dressed in cute litte white Grecian-inspired dresses with gold sandals that had straps up their legs. After an initial photo shoot of their profiles and little display of their walking ability for Miss J., the girls are gathered for Tyra’s appearance. They went wild when they saw her. It reminded me of those girls you see in old videos getting all hysterical over The Beatles.

As I said, I don’t plan on getting too attached to any of these chicks, so I’m not saying anything about the intial interviews they have with the panel. Once they get through the panel, a portion of the girls are eliminated. There are boxes set up on pedastals, each with a girl’s name on it. If the box with their name on it has a golden wreath in it, they get to go forward to the next round.

The remaining girls have a photo shoot, where they each portray a different goddess, justice, strength, success, modesty, etc. At the shoot, Angelea and another chick, Sandra, get into an argument. Angelea’s bad attitude and Sandra’s superiority complex are not a good mix. I feel a little sorry for Angelea, cause she is just coming across as so ghetto and I’m positive she wants to protray the exact opposite.

After another elimination, where Tyra choses the final group of 13 girls who are going forward, we are left with Aminat, Natalie, Fo, Allison, Tahlia, Celia, Nijah, London, Teyona, Kortnie, Isabella, Jessica and Sandra.

What’s Coming Up On The CW?

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

reaper-cwI’ve been wondering what’s going on with the CW. It seems like there’s been a lot of repeats lately, so I have nothing new to talk about. So I went through the next two weeks to see what’s happening. This is what I found out.

This week, Monday’s shows, Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill are repeats. On Tuesday, 90210 is also a repeat, but Privileged is a new ep, the first season finale.

And America’s Next Top Model is . . .

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

So we’re finally up to the last week and get to find out who is the new America’s Next Top Model. It will be either McKey, Analeigh or Samantha. Personally, I like Analeigh best.

I wonder, when these girls watch the show afterwards if they are completely embarrassed by how they behaved? Just thinking.

They start out this week shooting a commercial and a print ad for CoverGirl and some of the lines are Dutch! Also, they have to kiss a guy. The prize is amazing, though, their picture in Times Square and in every Walmart across the country. Sam and McKey both seem to have done just OK in the commercial, but not spectacular from what we see. Analeigh forgets her lines immediately. And we never see her get too much better. As for the photo shoot, they don’t get to have Jay there helping them to pose.

Analeigh and Samantha seem to be worrying more than McKey, but maybe that’s just all they are showing us. Or maybe it means something. Maybe McKey’s being more calm means she has this in the bag.

Selling Top Model Beauty

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

America’s Next Top Model starts out this week with the top four contestants chatting about what’s past and what they need to do going forward. Marjorie is still all worried and conflicted, Samantha seems very confident.

Paulina teaches them tricks to sell things without speaking, since this is something models have to do all the time. They have to model herring, toilet paper, cell phones and some other stuff. To me it seemed like Analeigh was the best, but Paulina thought she didn’t pay close enough attention to where the camera was. Although, Paulina did have pretty good things to say about all of them.

Go-See America’s Next Top Model

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Five girls are left on America’s Next Top Model: Elina, Marjorie, Analeigh, McKey and Samantha. It’s funny how when you start out, you think completely different people will make it to the end.

This week the girls have their go-sees. They have four hours to get to five places, or as many as they can in that time, and they still have to get back no later than 5 pm or they will be disqualified. Marjorie got lost from the beginning and lost over an hour of time wandering around looking for the first place. Meanwhile, the other girls had each gone on two go-sees. When Marjorie finally makes it to the first place, she doesn’t do too well. One place didn’t like Elina’s tatoos. I get that, cause my background is all in law offices and back in the day, a person with tats or piercings would never be hired. Everyone seemed to like McKey and Analeigh best.

After Marjorie does only two go-sees, she decides to go back to the start so at least she won’t miss the 5 pm deadline. Analeigh gets back next, she made it to three, and then Elina who made it to four. Samantha, who made it to four, is last back. Expect for McKey who does not make it back before 5 pm and is therefore disqualified. Other than that, she would have won the challenge. The clients thought Samantha was too commerical, Elina had too many tatoos, Marjorie was too nervous and hunched over and Analeigh looked good and all the clients liked her, but may have tried too hard to please the clients. I’m not sure what that even means, actually. Analeigh was the winner and she gets $18,000 in prizes (clothes and accessories) from the clients.

Elina, of course, thinks she should have won. But I’m not sure why exactly that she feels like she was that great. Analeigh, proving how much nicer she is than any of the others, spends time trying to convince Marjorie how beautiful and modely she is, and trying to build up her confidence before the photo shoot.

Tyra shoots them, first in their own clothes and without makeup and then all dressed and made up. Marjorie is still so nervous and Elina gets told that she needs to cut her nails off.

Once again, if I was losing someone, it would be Marjorie or Elina. Or maybe Samantha. But Marjorie is just so nervous and doesn’t relate well to people, so how will she ever book jobs?

In panel, Samantha’s natural pic is really good, as is her glam shot. So I guess she does deserve to stay. Analeigh’s natural pic was just OK, but her glam shot was great. Marjorie did great in the natural test shot, but the rest of the film wasn’t good. Her glam shot was so great, it’s hard to believe it was her. Elina’s pics were both good, but I didn’t think they were incredible or anything. McKey looked good in both shots. She was told that she would have booked all four jobs at the go-sees she went to, the only one of them to do that. Marjorie didn’t book any jobs, and the other girls each booked two jobs.

In eliminations, they were called in this order: Samantha, McKey, Analeigh. The bottom two are Elina and Marjorie. Ah, our two Europeans. Tyra tells them that they both have such potential but they get in their own way. Elina has so much confidence and a beautiful face that photographs so well, but she holds on too tightly and that diminishes her beauty. Marjorie is exquisite and has so much model potential, but she lets her nerves get the better of her.

So who stays? Marjorie stays. I’m pretty happy about that, actually, although I’m not sure how much longer the kid can take it before she has a nervous breakdown.

So good bye to Elina.

ANTM Goes to Amsterdam

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Finally, I get to watch America’s Next Top Model when it’s on and can write my notes online as I watch, instead of taking all the notes long hand while I watch on the computer and then trying to decipher what I wrote!! Yay for having the CW back on my TV!

The show this week starts out with the remaining girls flying to Amsterdam. They are met at the airport by someone who speaks to them in Danish (maybe . . .), and who, it turns out, is the host of Top Model in Holland, Daphe Deckers. She teams them up and gives them a list of tasks to complete and then meet up at the house. The teams are Analeigh and Marjorie, McKey and Sheena, Samantha and Elina.

About Watching The CW

The CW was born in September 2006, and inherited a mixture of programming from its parents the WB and UPN. The CW has a diverse line up from Monday night comedy to Friday Night Smackdown. In between the laughs and the wrestling are alternate reality or fantasy based shows (Supernatural, Smallville), ones that are fit to bursting with bright young things (Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill) and don't forget all the wannabes trying to make it in reality programming (The Beauty & the Geek, America's Next Top Model, Pussy Cat Dolls). This blog will review, recap, share spoilers and other cool finds related to the CW's programming.
