Reaper: A Wise Choice

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Lovely interview with Ray Wise over at SciFi about how his whole career was leading up to playing the devil. I think the powers-that-be made a wise choice in Wise as having such an experienced character actor will bring much depth to a light and frothy show (think Buffy and how they were packed to the gills with solid actors). Of course it also helps to have input from cinematic meister Kevin Smith who really knows how to handle the “slacker” genre.

Let’s start the week!

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

TVGuide’s Matt Roush has some praise for the forthcoming season of scripted shows on the CW. He is excited about Reaper and positively glowing about Aliens in America.

Apparently all us Supernatural fans are getting our knickers into a twist over the two new female characters that will be regulars in the third season. In an interview Eric Kripke, series creator, addresses our fears and promises that “We are not turning into One Tree Hill with monsters”. There seems to be a fair amount of hand holding going out to us fans to reassure us that Ruby and Bella will be rivals, or equals, to the Winchester brothers BUT not love interests.

ANTM: Cycle 7 (in hindsight)

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

For some reason I never watched cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model first time around but I knew that CariDee had won. Having that knowledge makes watching it a different experience, and with the case of CariDee as the shows progress you can really see her improve. It also means that you can sleep easy knowing the Melrose wont win. That girl is an acquired taste, she certainly brings it to the shoots (loved her as Trump) but rubs all the girls the wrong way. I do worry about the twins, the one that is more suited to modeling isn’t the twin that wants it the most and what happens if one is voted out before the other?

Slow week in CW-land

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

I am marking off the days on my calendar till the fall 2007 season kicks off, in the meantime there is a repeat of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7 (I think) and the odd spoiler about my favorite shows…

Check out Watch with Kristin on EOnline for scoops about a mysterious blond stranger saving Lex and the other hunter chick to be joining the Winchester brothers.

BTW, I totally agree with kg’s comments about how the Supernatural chicks must not upset the balance between Dean and Sam. I think Lauren Cohan should be an interesting addition to the team (but maybe I am biased as she went to school in Britain).

Hints For The Season Ahead

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

It looks as if spoiler season is kicking in as SciFi reports that a cousin for Clark has been cast, and we can look forward to Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort as Kara (aka Supergirl). Over at SpoilerFix it looks as if Dean and Sam will be joined by a husband and wife hunting team, and rumors of two female series regulars going by the monikers Ruby and Bela. But, more importantly Supernatural will be doing something creative with the seven deadly sins and give who their spin on vampires, werewolves and genies it will be something to look forward to.

Smallville hires Hidden Palms alumni

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I said that Michael Cassidy’s character Cliff in Hidden Palms was like a wannabe Lex Luther, and now it turns out that Cassidy will be joining the cast of Smallville in the capacity of editor of the Daily Planet (from TVGuide online’s Ausiello).

Life is Wild: A Substitution

Friday, July 6th, 2007

This one is a double whammy with both parents being replaced on Life is Wild according to TVGuide.
Everwood’s Stephanie Niznik and Hidden Palms’ D.W. Moffett will be stepping in to play the couple that pack up their blended family and transplant them in South Africa. Very glad to be seeing more of Moffett as he did a sterling job on Hidden Palms.

Hidden Palms: The end?

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Hats off to the Powers That Be as they managed to trick me into thinking that they had copped out on the conclusion to Eddie’s death AND left the door open for a possible sequel (but not enough for us to be too bummed out if they don’t).

First off Eddie’s laptop is the smoking gun, Greta is the key (though not in the way we’d imagined) and I am amazed that Johnny was able to do anything given the amount of time he spent making out with Greta.

Just to recap on the B-story lines. Nicki is channeling Rachel from the early seasons of Friends and is trying to cut it as a waitress whilst rebuffing Cliff’s advances. Bob and Karen are still bickering over nothing, and in a complete U-turn Johnny counsels his mom to stay with Bob. Let’s just say that both couples make up.

Skip and Maria (Eddie’s Mom) are lurking in corners, deflecting any questions regarding Eddie or each other, and acting suspicious. Johnny manages to connect to Maria, and explains why getting to the bottom of Eddie’s suicide is so important. Skip takes it up a notch and starts getting mean and nasty with Maria (he does not take too kindly to being blackmailed), and we learn that they were once an item.

After an abortive attempt by Cliff to gain the smoking laptop (as a way of currying favor with Nicki via Johnny) Liza decides to break in. It is dark, and she stumbles over something (or someone). It is Eddie’s mom! She has left a suicide note that she was unable to live with her part in Eddie’s death. At this point I was not best pleased and was screaming “That can’t be it!!!” and thankfully it wasn’t. After much slow motion hugging (and Skip creeping off with the laptop) Johnny returns home to discover an email from Maria.

OMG. Eddie accuses his Mom and Skip of killing Greta’s mother. Eddie has a gun, there is a struggle with Skip and the gun goes off.

Any other thoughts on Hidden Palms lurking in cyberspace?

Aliens in America: A Substitution

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Just as I was starting to get excited about a potential new CW show they go and swap out the dads (as reported by TVGuide.com from the Hollywood Reporter). Gilmore Guy Scott Patterson will be stepping in to head up the host family instead of Patrick Breen. If this is true then it will give a different flavor to the show and we’ll have to wait till the fall (unless CW up date their sneak peek videos on their site).

I know tomorrow is 4th July but don’t forget that it will also be season finale of Hidden Palms.

About Watching The CW

The CW was born in September 2006, and inherited a mixture of programming from its parents the WB and UPN. The CW has a diverse line up from Monday night comedy to Friday Night Smackdown. In between the laughs and the wrestling are alternate reality or fantasy based shows (Supernatural, Smallville), ones that are fit to bursting with bright young things (Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill) and don't forget all the wannabes trying to make it in reality programming (The Beauty & the Geek, America's Next Top Model, Pussy Cat Dolls). This blog will review, recap, share spoilers and other cool finds related to the CW's programming.
