Everybody Hates Chris

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Given how much I detested the smarmy, self congratulatory titled Everybody Loves Raymond I should have been watching EHC from the get-go. You can catch up with past episodes on the CW’s main site.

Everybody Hates Chris debuted on UPN in Sept 2005, and is currently in its 2nd season. Snuggly kicking off the CW’s Monday night comedy line up (doing so well that its 3rd season has been confirmed - thank you Wiki). It is loosely based around Chris Rock’s experiences of growing up in Brooklyn but the time frame has been shifted to the mid-80s. In the same vein as Wonder Years Rock narrates the show all be it in a slightly more sarcastic tone than “Kevin”.

From what I’ve watched so far this show is smarter and more subversive than your average sitcom (it is worth listening very carefully to Rock’s narration).

It pays to be green

Monday, April 9th, 2007

SciFi is reporting a pitch for a Green Arrow movie. The good news is that it is David Goyer who is behind it and if it is anything like Batman Begins then we are in for a treat. In case you haven’t had your fill of the Green Arrow he CW has a mini-site with the Green Legends chronicles.

Now, it is Monday and I need some help about what to watch this evening. I don’t really watch any half-hour sitcoms any more - I prefer dramas with a comical underbelly. Think Supernatural and the banter between the brothers, or House. The CW’s schedule on a Monday night consists of back to back comedies: Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us, Girlfriends and The Game.

I am leaning towards Everybody Hates Chris but just wondered if there were any other opinions floating about out there…

Say it isn’t so

We have to wait till May 1st for Veronica Mars.

That we are trapped in repeatsville till April 19th for Smallville and Supernatural.

That Sam and Dean are going to end up in prison and that there may be revelations about Mary Winchester. (Plenty of other great spoilers to be had at BuddyTVSpoilerFix)

I have been trying to studiously ignore Pussycat Dolls but you can access past episodes on the main CW site. Will I be able to resist the temptation…

ANTM: 8.6

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

All the way through last night’s show I was convinced that it was Jael’s swan song. She was goofing around and then at the celeb party she badgered 50 Cents so much at the she ended up in the pool. I was WRONG. It was the old bait and switch.

To kick things off Lesley Hornby aka Twiggy set the girls the challenge of branding themselves with a slick new moniker. With the wave of Twiggy’s magic wand the eight girls became: Whitell, Moe, Brit, Nata, Nayien, Jaslene, Jael and Wholahay. The girls were then whisked off to a celeb party to try out their new names and to drink Smart Water, but first Twiggy gives ‘em some rules:

1. Be eloquent
2. Don’t monopolize
3. Humor

Given that Jael broke all three rules I felt for sure she would end up in the final two. I hate it when my ANTM sense fails me. The challenge at the party was to mingle, network and impress Benny Medina and his crew. (Benny is Tyra’s agent and a big deal.) I thought Wholahay (Dionne) came of classiest (she won the challenge and got a real modeling job) and Nayien’s (Renee) conversation the most painful as her new name sounds like name. Doh, got to think these things through.

The girls were given free range for the photo shoot. They got to pick hair, make-up and clothes and then do four poises that show four sides to their personality. I had my fingers crossed that it would be a wreck but it wasn’t. This cycles photo shoots are going too smoothly we need to jazz them up a bit with animals and reptiles perhaps?

There has been a lot of tension in the house so Tyra showed up for a chit chat with a side order of therapy. There were tears about misunderstandings, being away from your child, bereavements and a hair weave being too tight. I cannot stress who much I covet Britney’s red hair - it is fierce with a capital ‘F’.

Whitney and Sarah were the final two and shock horror Sarah went home!

Tonight squared

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

If it is Wednesday then it must be America’s Next Top Model night but reading the blurb for tonight’s show it looks a little lame. But I really really hope that I am proved wrong. Tonight we will discover why Twiggy is called Twiggy (I am thinking it might have something to do with her being thin and twig like) and our gals are encouraged to come up with sell able nicknames for themselves. There will be a celeb party and if the title rings true, The Girl Who Gets Thrown in the Pool, someone might end up a little wet. Our only hope for salvation is that Nigel does the photo shoot - wouldn’t that be nice?

Two things spotted in TV Guide this morning, an interview with Diana who was eliminated last week and May 13th is the day set for the finale of 7th Heaven.

Lana pregnancy theories & some links (Smallville)

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Co-executive producer of Smallville, Steven DeKnight is in SciFi talking about how Lana’s pregnancy will be a main theme for the remainder of the season. Any theories?

I reckon that Lex did something bad whether he “faked” the pregnancy as a way of securing Lana’s hand in marriage or impregnated her with something krypto. As much as I lean towards the former there was Lex’s lingering look at the ultrasound of the baby before he burnt it. But was it guilt or paternal love?

Like Supernatural there wont be a new episode of Smallville till April 19 but it will feature Lynda Carter aka Wonder Woman!

Finally, last week Dark Horizons reported that there may be a remake of Teen Wolf with a girl in the lead but that our own Clark Kent had been cast in a role. Lycanthropy was all the rage last week!

Links (Supernatural)

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

There wont be a new episode of Supernatural until April 19th! Which makes me a very sad blogger. In the meantime, try to console yourselves with the “limited” merchandising that the CW has released for Supernatural. It may only be two mugs and a box set, but the mugs are pretty cool. If you head over to SciFi there is an interview with John Shiban, an executive producer of Supernatural, chatting about the upcoming finale of this season and the overall themes of the show.

About Watching The CW

The CW was born in September 2006, and inherited a mixture of programming from its parents the WB and UPN. The CW has a diverse line up from Monday night comedy to Friday Night Smackdown. In between the laughs and the wrestling are alternate reality or fantasy based shows (Supernatural, Smallville), ones that are fit to bursting with bright young things (Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill) and don't forget all the wannabes trying to make it in reality programming (The Beauty & the Geek, America's Next Top Model, Pussy Cat Dolls). This blog will review, recap, share spoilers and other cool finds related to the CW's programming.
